Jeannette M. (Mather) Axsom age 93 of Brockton died Friday September 28, 2012 at West Acres Nursing Home after a period of failing health. Jeannette was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Thomas G. and Mary (Humsey) Mather and remained a lifelong resident of the city. A graduate of Brockton High School, Jeannette had worked for over 25 years as a dietary aide at the Cardinal Cushing Hospital.
Jeannette was a lifelong member of St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church and was very involved with church activities. She was a charter member of the Altar Society and volunteered at bazaars and dinners. She had also been a member of the Lebanese American National Club and the Sullivan Towers Tenants Association. She loved the Boston Red Sox and cooking.
Jeannette is survived by her son Thomas R. Axsom, Sr. of East Bridgewater. She was the grandmother “Sito” of Thomas R. Axsom, Jr. of Bridgewater, Marlo Constantini of Florida, Derek Axsom, Sr. of Brockton and the late Derek Michael Axsom. She leaves nine great grandchildren Ashley Constantini, Tiffani Walsh, Anthony Constantini , Hayley Axsom, Thomas Axsom, III, Derek Axsom, Jr., Mariah Walsh, Danielle and Nevaeh Axsom. She is survived by three great great grandchildren Gage and Summer Rain Reed and Bella Constantini. She leaves many nieces and nephews and two sisters-in- law Violet Mather of Avon and Meredith Mather of Brockton. She was the sister of the late Fred “Fliver”, George “Young”, Philip, George “Mitch” and Bernice Mather. She was the favorite mother-in-law to Carolee May Axsom of East Bridgewater her favorite daughter-in-law.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 8:30-9:30 am followed by a Service of the Divine Liturgy in St. Theresa Maronite Church, 343 N. Main Street, Brockton at 10 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Jeannette’s name may be made to St. Theresa Church, PO Box 2567, Brockton, MA 02305-2567.
