Doris M. (Richard) Avila, 86, of Acushnet died September 30, 2012 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of Jules M. Avila.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Alphonse and Florina (Benjamin) Richard, she had lived in Fairhaven and Acushnet for most of her life.
Mrs. Avila was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
She was formerly employed as a sales clerk at Ann & Hope in North Dartmouth for 4 years.
Mrs. Avila was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Jules M. Avila, Jr. and his wife Loretta of Dartmouth; a daughter, Elaine Tetreault and her husband Russell of Acushnet; a sister, Jeanette Lamarre of California; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Wayne Avila and sister of the late Alice Baptista and Joseph Richard.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, October 4th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10 AM. Entombment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, October 3rd from 4-8 PM.
