Obituary

Serafim "Serry" Mello passed away June 3, 2004 @ Alden Court Nursing Home in Fairhaven. He was the husband of the late Lena Souza. He was the beloved father of Barbara A. Talbot of Fairhaven, Jane M. Desmarais of Swansea, Ma and Paul A. Mello of S. Dartmouth. He was the brother of Violet Cunha of California, Delvina Medeiros also of California, and brother of the late Joseph, Frank, John and Stella Mello, Margaret Botelho, Mary Furtado, Jessie Costa and Manuel Mello.

Mr. Mello was born in New Bedford, son of the late Francisco Mello and Margaret Baroa. He worked as a equipment installer for the Telephone Company. He was a graduate of N.B.H.S. Class of 1942. He was the President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Mount Carmel Church, he was a member of the Mount Carmel Senior Citizens and the Advanced Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America. He was involved in scouting for 35 years. Mr. Mello was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, also a member of the Telephone Co. Pioneers and to the Holy Name Society of Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Mello was the recipeint of the Pelican Award, St. George Award, the District Award of Merit, the Silver Harpoon and the Silver Beaver Award all from the Boy Scouts. Mr. Mello served in the United States Navy during World War II and held rank as radioman.

The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004 @ Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church @ 9am. Family and friends are invited. Burial will follow @ St. John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Friday, June 4, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Mount Carmel.
