Obituary

Iona Hood, 90, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held at 4 P.M., Monday, October 1, 2012 in the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hood was born March 28, 1922 in Fitzgerald to the late William & Lottie Benzing Jarchow. She was a seamstress having worked at the Monarch Company and H.R. Kaminsky & Sons. She also worked as a clerk at a 7-11 store while living in Florida. She was a former resident of Clearwater, Palm Bay, and Melbourne, all in Florida, and returned home to Fitzgerald in 1971, living most of her life here. Mrs. Hood was a member of Crossview Baptist Church. A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and babysitting her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Patricia Ann Cox & Samuel of Fitzgerald, Melvin K. Rogers, Jr. & Becky of Abbeville, and Annette Smith & Lonnie of Douglas; step-children and their spouses: Denise & Mike Silcox of Cordele, David & Terri Hood of Canton and Frank Daniel Hood of Canton; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Charlotte Drexler of Fitzgerald; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Melvin K. Rogers, and Frank Webster Hood; an infant son: David Allen Rogers; a daughter: Mary Alice Mattair; a step-son: Eddie Hood; three brothers and two sisters.
