Sheldon W. Gately, age 84, of Brockton, died unexpectedly September 27, 2012 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the husband for 63 years of Eleanor M. (Jones) Gately. Sheldon was born, raised and educated in Brockton, son of the late James and Clothilda (Canavan) Gately. For many years he had been employed at Atherton’s Furniture Store and retired after 20 years from Allied Auto Parts at the age of 81. He was a member of Local 653 for many years and enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed attending fairs, trips to Hawaii and loved animals, especially his granddog Gabby.
In addition to his wife Eleanor he is survived by his daughters Jean E. Gately of Brockton and Cindy M. Hagenbuch and her husband Glenn of Concord NH; four grandchildren Kelly, Kaitlyn, Kayleigh and Daniel Hagenbuch; a brother Fallon Gately of Middleboro and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Geraldine Renaud.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 2-5pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 8am for a funeral mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Sheldon’s name may be made to Christ the King Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Society, 42 Wendell Avenue, Brockton, MA 02302.
