Robert J. Theirrien, 62, of North Oxford, formerly of Cherry Valley, died Friday, September 21st in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester. He leaves his wife of 39 years, Donna C. (Berndt) Theirrien; a son, Brian R. Theirrien and his wife Rebecca of Newton, NH; a daughter, Michelle D. Ferrari and her husband Michael of East Hartland, CT; five grandchildren, Soleigh, Corinne, Rafael, Evan, and Chloe; his mother and step-father, Joan (Hatt) Jones and William Jones of Millbury; five brothers, Richard Theirrien of CA, William Jones, Jr. and his wife Denise of Sutton, George Jones and Wayne Jones, both of Millbury, and Wayne Theirrien and his wife Kathy of San Clemente, CA; two sisters, Judy Gillet and her husband Frank of Whitinsville and Joyce Bartolomei and her husband William of Sturbridge; his mother in law, Simone Berndt of Fitchburg, his brothers-in-law, Bruce Berndt and his wife Sharon and Fr. Wayne Berndt OFM CAP of Okinawa, Japan; a close member of his family, Diago McClain and his wife Annette of Worcester; nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Francis Berndt, and his father, Adolphus Theirrien.
He was born in Worcester and graduated from Millbury Memorial High School. Bob was a truck driver for 35 years and worked at Worcester Envelope Company for 26 years, before retiring in 2011. He previously worked at Heffernan Press. Mr. Theirrien was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran, and served from 1969 to 1973 aboard the USS Nitro. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, Worcester.
Bob was an avid sports fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics. He coached Leicester Little League, Youth Soccer, and Youth Basketball for many years. He loved to spend his vacations along the seacoast of Maine with his family, especially his grandchildren. He supported and participated in fundraisers for Autism Speaks, the Mercy Centre, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society Bike Ride.
The funeral is Friday, September 28th with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, Robert J. Theirrien Memorial Fund, 55 Emerson Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
