Newman, William J. Jr., of Duxbury, formerly of Brookline and Brighton, September 22, 2012 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 56 years of Marie (Lanfranchi) Newman. Loving father of William Newman III and his wife Teri of Deltona, Florida , Patricia Pagliuso of Sagamore Beach, John Newman and his wife Peggy of Hanson and Paul Newman of Pompano Beach, FL. Loving grandfather to Brett and Ashley Newman, Nicole, Bianca and Francesca Pagliuso and Emily and Abbie Newman. Son of the late William J. and Irene M. (Arthur) Newman. Brother of the late Dorothy Chestnut and Barbara Tynan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. William was born in Boston and raised in Brookline. He was a retired Brookline firefighter. William served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major, making him the first one to hold this rank in the state of Massachusetts. He was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. After his retirement William drove a school bus for Duxbury and Marshfield. He was also the bus driver for the Marshfield Hockey team. William was a past Grand Knight for Council #121 in Brighton. He was also a past commander of the Duxbury American Legion.
Visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St. Rte 139, Marshfield on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont St. Duxbury at 10:00 a.m.
