NORTON - Kilinc Arslan Erkan of Norton, formerly of Sharon, died on Saturday, among family, after a long illness, at age 79.
He was born in Tefenni, Turkey. He graduated from medical school in Ankara and finished residency training at Hacettepe in Ankara. He then had further training in Liverpool, England before moving to the US in 1963. He completed his training in pediatrics and allergy/immunology at Children’s Hospital in Washington DC. Finally, he did a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at the University of Maryland. He established a private practice with his wife Ulku in Stoughton, Massachusetts, where he practiced for 35 years before retiring in 2006. His work brought him much joy and satisfaction. In turn, he was well-loved and respected by his patients, and in 1999, he was chosen as a "Best of Boston" doctor by Boston Magazine.
He was devoted to his family, and also enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives in Turkey. In his free time, he loved to garden and travel. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dr. Ulku Erkan, as well as his children Muge, Mine, and Murat, their spouses John, Joe, and Gulsah, and his grandchildren Derik, Seray, and Annabel.
