Obituary

Joy Goodlett Shelton Gass, age 83, died on September 21, 2012 at Signature Healthcare of Clarksville.
She was born on April 3, 1929 in Clarksville, TN, daughter of the late Collier W. and Liz Tandy Trabue Goodlett. She attended Ward Belmont College.
She was a longtime member of Madison Street United Methodist Church, the Captain William Edmiston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Caroline Meriweather Goodlett Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Elegante Club, and was a former board member of the Montgomery County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. She retired in 1993, after a 23-year career with the Montgomery County Health Department. She served as honorary chairperson of the Clarksville-Montgomery County American Cancer Society's "Love Lights a Tree". She received the Tennessee Division of the American Cancer Society Award in 1988 for her volunteer work with cancer patients, arranging transportation and providing patients with support.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Shelton; her son, William Scott Shelton; and her brother, Collier W. Goodlett, Jr.
She is survived by her second husband, William E. Gass, Jr.; her daughter, Elizabeth Shelton Durnya (Louis) of Huntsville, AL; her daughter-in-law, Elise Frederick Shelton; and four grandchildren, Cameron Durnya (Nicole) of Huntsville, AL, Sarah Durnya Stevens (Drew) of Birmingham, AL, Adam Shelton and Will Shelton of Clarksville, TN; sister-in-law, Hazel Goodlett; stepsons, Andy and David Gass of Nashville, TN; and five step-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Madison Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Cliff Wright and Rev. SungNam Kim officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 2 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Goodlett, Collier Goodlett, III, Tony Whitehead, and Mark Haskins. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Goodlett, Jr., members of the Elegante Club, and the Willard Blue Sunday School Class.
The family expresses its deep appreciation to beloved caregiver, Julie Newton, and the Staff of Asera Care Hospice.
