Boylston - Donald F. Adams, 81, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012. He was born August 22nd 1931, the son of the late Ralph W. Adams and Ruth E. Adams. His wife of 51 years Ida M. Adams, predeceased him. He leaves a son, George D. Adams and his wife Rebecca J. Adams; a daughter, Cheryl J. Morrill; two granddaughters, Bethany R. and Jessica A. Morrill, all of Boylston; and a sister Joyce I. Fuller of West Boylston. His brother Dana W. Adams, predeceased him. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and many very close friends.
Donald was a life-long resident of Boylston and member of the First Congregational Church, where he sang in the choir for over 30 years. He was a baritone soloist at Old South Church in Worcester and several other local churches for many years. Don was a member of the SPEBSQSA Championship Barbershop Quartet, The 4 of Note.
Over his 81 years, he was very active in the community including serving with the Men’s Group of the First Congregational Church and the Boylston Lions Club for over 38 years. He was King Lion 3 separate times and the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award from The International Lions Club. Donald was an avid golfer and played in the Boylston Golf League and was a member of The Westborough Country Club. He was Vice President of REFCO, Inc. of Boylston, where he devoted over 35 years of skilled salesmanship and customer service. He was also an army veteran stationed in Germany, and as a young man he was a member of the Blackstone Valley Semi-Pro Baseball League, later coaching the local little league baseball team.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, on Sunday, September 23, from 2-4 pm. The Funeral will be held at First Congregational Church of Boylston, 10 Church Street on Monday, September 24, at 11 am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.
