Obituary

William T. Hardy, 88, of Salem, died Wednesday September 12, 2012 at Parkland Medical Center of Derry, after a brief illness. Mr. Hardy was born August 15, 1924 in Waltham, MA and was a son of the late Thomas and Emma (French) Hardy. He was raised and educated in Waltham and received his Bachelor’s degree in Hydraulic and Electrical Engineering. He was a longtime resident of Salem, NH.
Mr. Hardy served in the Merchant Marine service during World War II. He was employed for many years with Raytheon Corporation, where he was one of twelve engineers responsible for developing the Hawk missile system. He also was a carpenter, and built many homes in Salem.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved to cook, was an avid golf and football fan, and will forever be remembered for his love of his family. Mr. Hardy was also a longtime Co-Captain of the Mutual, at Rockingham Park.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Phyllis (Collins) Hardy, in 1998.
Members of the family include a son and his wife Wayne T. and Kieu Hardy of Manchester, a daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Larry Stalhiem of Derry, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, including his beloved granddaughter Caoilfhionn Hardy, her significant other, Greg Coppola, and great granddaughter Madison Hardy, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. After cremation, private services are being planned by the family, The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry is assisting the family. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 250 William Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30303, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th floor, New York, NY 10004.
