WAYLAND: Harvey Ames Jr., 88, died peacefully under the care and comfort of his family at his son John’s residence in Walpole following a period of declining health on Wed. Sept 12, 2012.
He was born in Waltham on March 22, 1924 the son of the late Harvey Ames, Sr. and Mildred (Wallace) Ames. Following her death, Harvey Sr. married Bessie (Wallace) Ames and they raised Harvey, Jr.
He was the beloved husband for 50 years of the late Dorothy A. (Clark) Ames who died in Feb. 1999.
He was the devoted father of Wendy C. Bedrosian of Maynard; William H. Ames of Pueblo West, CO; John C. Ames of Walpole; Deborah A. Rigg of Magnolia, TX; Marianne M. Ames of Hampden, ME and Scott A. Ames of Oakham, MA; loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Dorothy Ames Secord of Middletown Springs, VT; Janet Ames Cate of Waltham and the late David Ames. Grandfather of the late Isaac Daniel and Rebekah Lynn Rigg. Also survived by 6 nieces and 3 nephews.
Harvey has been a resident of Wayland for the past 59 years and spent his earlier years in Watertown. He was a graduate of Watertown High School with the Class of 1942 and received his AS degree from Wentworth Institute with the Class of 1948. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Gunner’s Mate Second Class with the U.S. Navy. He had a long and distinguished career as a HVAC Pipefitter with Capital Engineering before retiring. Harvey has been a longtime and faithful member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and as a member of the church choir. He also volunteered and was a member of the Wayland Booster Club and served as a Cub Scout Master. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local 537. He will be greatly missed by the many lives that he touched over his lifetime.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept 14, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Rd (Rte 27) Wayland.
Interment to follow in North Cemetery in Wayland followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
