Obituary

Stella G. Halfyard, 96, of Derry, NH died Wednesday September 12, 2012 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. Mrs. Halfyard was born in Liverpool, England on March 20, 1916, a daughter of the late Charles and Caroline (Sockell) Aldcroft. She had resided in Derry since 1979, formerly living in North Reading, MA. Mrs. Halfyard had been employed as a secretary for the Town of Reading, MA. She was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Derry and was an avid sewer.
She is survived by one son, James S. Halfyard, Jr. of Barrington, RI, two daughters, Carol Hopkinson of Orrington, ME, and Nancy A. Burley of The Villages, FL, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Edith Miller of Lexington, MA, and Ida Kelly of San Jose, CA . She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James S. Halfyard, Sr. in 1967 and her son, Charles W. Halfyard in 2011.
Calling hours were held on Sunday September 16, 2012 from 2 – 5pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Monday at 1:00pm in St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Broadway, Derry. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
