Obituary

CHICOPEE – Rena C. (Bibeau) Grondin, 85, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Whitman Street in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on December 10, 1926, a beloved daughter of the late Rosario A. and Lillian C. (Meunier) Bibeau. She was raised in Willimansett, graduated in 1944 from Chicopee High School and later the Holyoke Business School. She was a lifelong resident of the city and moved to the Aldenville section in 1958. She was last employed as an administrative assistant at the Chicopee Visiting Nurse Association before retiring in 1993. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. Rena also served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister and a longtime volunteer at the Pastoral Center. She was also a volunteer at the Aldenville Senior Center and the Willimansett Nursing Homes. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Lucien A. “Bunny” Grondin. They were married in the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett and were blessed with nearly 64 years of happiness together. She also leaves: her loving children, Allan R. Grondin of Tolland, MA and Paula G. Albertowicz and her husband, David, of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Jeanne Bibeau, of Longmeadow; her dear brother-in-law, Richard M. Chartier, of Chicopee; and several dear nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Roland V. Bibeau who was Called Home on October 17, 2011 and her dear sister, Lucille R. Chartier who was Called Home on October 20, 2011. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, September 15, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either the Sainte Rose de Lima Church Organ Fund, 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to the Alzheimers Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
