WINGATE - Roy C. Wingate, 70, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 8, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
He was born September 8, 1942 in Jesup, GA and moved to Yulee in 1967 from Jacksonville, FL.
Mr. Wingate was a member of the River of Praise Worship Center in Yulee. He taught Sunday School for many years and was Sunday School Superintendant for a number of years. He also served on the Pastor's Council and he loved to preach God's Word.
Mr. Wingate was employed by Jacksonville Shipyards for 26 years and was a welding supervisor. He was also employed by Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach for 14 years.
He was a loving, devoted husband, father and Grandfather.
Mr. Wingate was predeceased by his parents, Hardy A. and Mildred Wingate; and by three brothers, Harry, Ray, and James Wingate.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jean Wingate; two sons, Allen C. Wingate (Ann) and Barry L. Wingate (Tina); a daughter, Connie J. Wingate (David Douglas, Fiance'), all of Yulee, FL; a sister, Velma Hall (Freddy) of Jesup, GA; his mother in law, Aletha Middleton; five grandchildren, Heather, Casey, Brandon, Amy and Adam (Chelsea); and four great grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Mason and Brantley.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, September 12, at the River of Praise Worship Center with Bishop Larry Osburn officiating. Interment will follow in Hughes Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Green Pine Funeral Home.
