Obituary


Whitman – Gladys M. (MacNeill) Arsenault 88, died unexpectedly Sunday September 9. She was the beloved wife of over 65 years to the late Roy W. Arsenault.

Born and raised in Somerville she was the daughter of the late James and Zita (Poirrei) MacNeill.

As an active resident of Whitman for over fifty years, Gladys had been a longtime member of the Whitman Mother’s Club and a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church.

Before her retirement she had worked many years for the former United Shoe Machinery of Whitman. For over twenty years she had been a familiar and friendly face, as well as a favorite among the children, as a reading volunteer for the Conley Elementary School in Whitman.

She loved going out to eat at the local restaurants, and trying her luck at Keno. She enjoyed knitting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and playing games especially her weekly “neighborhood” card games.

She is survived by her loving daughter Gail Sherman and her husband Alan with whom she resided, and her sister Mildred Iott of South Dakota.

Her funeral services will be held Thursday September 13 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A private burial will be held in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday September 12 from 4-8 PM.
