Obituary

Hanson – Margery “Peggy” (Hillier) Tonner 93, died peacefully on Wednesday September 5 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Robert W. Tonner.

She was born and raised in Braintree and had lived there most of her life, moving to Hanson in 2006. She was a graduate of Thayer Academy where she remained active as a class agent for the class of 1937. She was also a graduate of Bradford College, and had taught at the Thayerlands pre-school and kindergarten for many years.

While a resident of Braintree, Peggy had owned and directed “The Creative Learning Center” for sixteen years. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she served on the vestry, taught nursery and kindergarten Sunday school and was a member of St. Mary’s Guild.

Peggy was an accomplished artist whose work can be seen in homes across the country. She treasured her family and her many friends.

She was the mother of Robert W. Tonner, Jr. of Boston, Suzanne (Tonner) Okerfelt and her husband James of Hanson, James H. Tonner of Bristol, NH and Bradford M. Tonner of Bristol, NH, grandmother of Leigh S. Craven of Abington and Cynthia G. Okerfelt of New York City. She is also survived by her sister Jeanne Werner of Middleboro and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother-in-law of the late Kelly Tonner.

At her request all services are private.
