Johnie Winn, 89, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, September 10, 2012 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Craig Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Winn was born December 29, 1922, in Abbeville, Georgia to the late Lewis Winn and Bessie Rose Pitts Winn. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served in the Seabees. He lived in the area most of his life where he was owner and operator of W & W Service Station on West Central. He was a mechanic for Ferguson Tractor Co., Hudson Chevrolet and also worked for Wynn Electric. He was an avid deer hunter and loved to fish. Mr. Winn was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Johnie R. & Sue Winn of Fitzgerald, daughter: Betsy C. Winn of Watkinsville; grandchildren: Allen & Bernice Winn of Warner Robins and Jennifer & Scott Starcher of Okinawa, Japan; great-grand children: Austin Winn, Jenniffer Horger, David Starcher, Sara Starcher and one brother: Cecil Winn of Fitzgerald. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Claudia V. Lewis Winn and sister Robbie Waddell.
