George W. Allen Sr.
February 10, 1918- March 12, 2011

George W. Allen Sr., 93, of Anderson passed away on March 12, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on February 10, 1918 in Anderson the son of Frank and Lena (Bienert) Allen. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1937, and attended Ball State University.

He married the love of his life, Joann Major on August 6, 1940 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Fred Thomas officiating.

He worked for Delco Remy and Guide Lamp of Anderson then went in the Navy as a Pharmacist Mate and also was in the Marines.

In 1946, he joined the State Police and was at the Pendleton Post for 20 years, retiring in 1966.

He designed and built several homes including the home he resided in for 45 years. He liked computer technology and working in the yard.

He and Joann traveled in their motor home and enjoyed spending time with their family and his special dogs, Mike and Millie.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Pioneers of the State Police.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Joann (Major) Allen; Sons, George Wesley Allen and Douglas William Allen; Daughter, Candace Elaine Stabbins all of Anderson; Grandson, Spencer W. Allen of Wyoming; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Reeves Maines; and a nephew, Jeffrey A. Reeves and wife.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lena Allen; father, Frank W. Allen; brother, Robert Allen; and a special brother-in-law, George Reeves.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Ong, Dr. Mares, and to the health care workers at St. John's for their diligent effort and kindness.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Revs. Gary Cable and Gary Klinger officiating. The burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery with the State Police saluting him with a 21 gun salute. The visitation will be from 12noon-2:00pm at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.
