Ronald L. Rhoten, age 68, of Daleville, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. John's Medical Center following a 10 month battle with lung cancer.
He was born July 19, 1943 in Gas City, Indiana to Fred and Nellie (Whybrew) Rhoten.
He was a graduate of Ball State University and held a maters degree from Anderson University. He was employed by General Motors for 30 years and retired in 1993. He served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He was an Active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He served in the following ways: choir, maintenance at church and school, Haiti Medical Team, Eucharistic Minister, Outreach Commission, RCIA , CYO adult leader, and Small Christian Community Leader. He was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Past president of Madison County Habitat for Humanity, served on the Anderson Leadership Academy, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Madison County Federal Credit Union. He volunteered to help anyone in need.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary C. (Beall ) Rhoten, 2 children: Ryan( wife Kathleen) Rhoten of Greenwood, and Renee' A. (Rhoten) Hartman and husband Doug of Kokomo; 4 Grandchildren, Noah, Kaylee, Seth, and Andrew; 3 Brothers, George (wife Sherry) Rhoten, Wayne Rhoten, John (wife Karen) Rhoten and a sister in law, Jean Rhoten and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nellie, a step father, Orus Dilley, a son, Christopher, and a brother Bob.
Services will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson officiated by Rev. Robert Williams. Visitation will be from 4-8 Pm on Tuesday at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson. Burial will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions: In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to the Scholarship fund at St. Mary's School or to St. Vincent de Paul.
