Edwin Alvares, Jr., 63, of Westport passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was the husband of Karen J. (Pacheco) Alvares.
Son of Edwin Alvares and the late Mary (DeSouto) Alvares, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Air Force. Mr. Alvares owned and operated Art-Dent Ceramic Studio in Tiverton, as well as Center Street Orthodontics in Westport and he was a long time member of the YMCA both in New Bedford and Fall River.
Survivors besides his wife and father include his 2 daughters: Linell M. Alvares of Fall River and Kimberly B. Poitras and her husband Derek of Westport and their children Zachary and Ben; his brother: Ronald Alvares and his wife Judy of Westport; his 2 sisters: Marlene Cabral and her husband John of Somerset and Pamela Alvares of Westport as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be from 8:30-10:00 A.M. prior to the service.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
