Wilbur "Willie" Funk
April 3, 1925- October 25, 2011
Wilbur "Willie" Funk, 86, of Chesterfield died on October 25, 2011 at St. John's Health System following a brief illness.
He was born on April 3, 1925 in Bowling Green, Indiana to Roy and Esther (Brady) Funk.
He served in the US Army during World War II as a Private First Class from 1943-1945. He was recipient of EAME Theater with 4 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart with 1 cluster, and Victory Medal World War II.
He worked as a machinist at General Motors for 32 years and retired in 1980. He worked for the Town of Chesterfield from 1961-1986 and Chesterfield Fire Department.
He was member a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 408 where he served as the past commander for 3 terms. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the 40 & 8. He was a member of the color guard and firing squad for the VFW. He was a received the special winner award in 2004 for the Chesterfield Parade.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Clark) Funk; 10 children, Wilbur (Will) Funk, Mitchell (Andrea) Funk, Dennis Funk, James (companion, Paula) Funk, Danny (Brenda) Funk, Jeff (Carol) Funk, Bruce (Barb) Funk, Tim Funk, Carla (Bobby) Levell, and Steve (Lisa) Funk; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, a brother, Everett Funk; 2 sisters, Geneva Smith and Christine Burch; several nieces and nephews; and 2 special friends, Herbert Lashure and John Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Jaima Funk; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Funk.
His funeral service will be on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:30 pm at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Ned Clark officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Post 266.
The visitation will be from 4:00-8:00pm Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
