Rev. Dr. Emery C. Williams, Sr.
May 3, 1921 - December 31, 2011

Rev. Dr. Emery C. Williams, Sr. age 90 of Anderson died at Community Hospital on December 31, 2011.

Emery was born May 3, 1921 in Eastman, Georgia to Estee and Mattie L. (Melvin) Williams Coates.

From Anderson College and Theological Seminary he earned his diploma June 14, 1946 then earned his B.A. of Theology on June 13, 1947; from Southwest International College in San Antonio, TX he earned his MA of Theology on June 4, 1971; from Brantridge Forest School in London, England he earned his Doctor of Philosophy on April 6, 1973; from Anderson University he earned an Honorary Doctor of Divinity on May 9, 2009.

He was a minister with the Church of God since 1940. He pastored in Lansing, MI; San Antonio, TX; Cleveland, OH; Jamaica, NY and Detroit, MI.

He returned to Anderson in 1982 following his retirement. He attended Sherman Street Church of God. He was a member of Madison County Urban League, life member of N.A.A.C.P.; Mounds Kiwanis Club; served on the board of Church Extensions and Home Missions of the Church of God.
He was a member of the Anderson University Alumni.

He is survived by his 4 children: Jean A. (George) Bossard of Warren, OH; Emery (Patricia) Williams Jr. of Anderson, Rosemary E. Terry of New York and Pauline E. Neal of Anderson; his brother Alfred (Barbara) Coates of Philadelphia, PA; 15 grandchildren Eddie; Christie; Jonathan; Daniel; India; Camille; Curtis; Michael; Michelle; Carl Jr.; David; Michelle; Jada; Juline and Julius Jr. many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousins and a host of family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillie Mae (Martin) Williams died February 11, 2009; 2 sisters Arrie Pickett and Algalee Coates; and a brother, Duke Williams.

Services will be Saturday, January 7 at 11:30 A.M. at Sherman Street Church of God with Rev. Ragen B. Mitchell officiating.

Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

The visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the service at the church.
