Obituary

CHICOPEE – Rita D. “Reet” (Piquette) Labrie, 89, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life from Wingate at South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in Chicopee on February 28, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Herve J. and Ida M. (Roy) Piquette. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated in 1940 from Cathedral High School in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She furthered her education by attending American International College in Springfield. She was employed as a bookkeeper with the former Piquette and Stebbins Mason Contractors in Chicopee, retiring in 1984. Previously, she was a cashier at the former Willow Theater in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and later was a bookkeeper with the E.J. Lieberman Company. An active member of her church and an avid gardener, she was a lifelong communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she often tended to the parish grounds, cemetery and gardens. She also served as a former treasurer of the Catholic Stewardship Appeal Committee of the parish. She volunteered her time in the CCD office and helped count the Sunday collections for many years. She was a member of the Cathedral High School Alumni Association. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by: her dear sister, Claire Baptiste, who was Called Home in 1962, her dear brother, Roger Piquette, who was Called Home on December 20, 2007; her dear sisters-in-law and their husbands, Aurore Robert and her husband, Roger and Adrienne Roy and her husband, Wilfred; her dear brother-in-law Edward Belanger; and her beloved “last” husband and best friend, Fernand H. “Ferde” Labrie who was Called Home on June 18, 2012. They were married on May 19, 1947 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church and were blessed with 65 years of happiness together. She leaves her four devoted children, Gerard R. Labrie and Susan A. Jodoin and her husband, Roland, all of Chicopee, Robert H. Labrie and his wife, Susan, of Goshen, MA and Peter A. Labrie and his wife, Wendy, of Monrovia, MD; her seven cherished grandchildren, Michael Jodoin and his wife, Elizabeth, Matthew Jodoin and his wife, Angela, Sarah, Alyssa and Hannah Labrie, and Simon and Andre Labrie; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Alexander and Natalie Jodoin; her dear sisters-in-law, Shirley Piquette of Chicopee and Flo Belanger of Agawam; her dear brother-in-law, Nelson Labrie and his wife, Theresa of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind countless flowers like her beloved crocus and tulips, delicate impatients and spider plants along with bright red geraniums and pink petunias that will never know her caring touch. The family would like to thank all of her loving caregivers including those from Wingate at South Hadley, Home Instead and especially Hospice Life Care and their extensive network of supporters. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, September 10, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
