GLOUCESTER – Thomas J. Ramos, Jr., of Lanesville, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.
Born in Gloucester on August 12, 1922, he was the son of the late Thomas J., Sr. and Isabel (Esbury) Ramos. He attended St. Ann School in Gloucester.
Tom was employed for more than 42 years in the trucking industry working for a number of Gloucester based companies.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, seeing action in both the Pacific and North African theatres. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Pacific campaign.
He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Julia P. Murray; three sons, former Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Chief Ronald W. Ramos and his wife Gail of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Barry M. Ramos of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Thomas C. Ramos and his wife Rosiline of Boca Raton, FL; a brother Richard Ramos of El Cajon, CA; and two sisters Connie Winterton of Rickman, TN and Shirley Busby of Lakeside, CA; and a number of nephews and nieces. He also leaves a grandchildren, Tania L. (Ramos) Dokken and her husband Eric, Peter J. and Ronald C. Ramos of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Melissa Mawn of NH. He was also predeceased by his oldest son, Norman P. Ramos and three younger brothers; Alfred George Ramos of Imperial Beach, CA, John Ramos of La Verne, CA and Donald B. Ramos of Stoneham.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours. Following cremation, his remains will be buried in a family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
