George P. Allen, 88, of Worcester passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 2nd, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita (Mancini) Allen; his four daughters, Linda Morrill and her husband, Stephen of Maynard, Bonnie Tiano of Worcester, Laurie Demers and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury and Andrea Strathmeyer, and her husband, Carl of Lunenburg; a brother, Edward Allen and his wife Joyce of Worcester; three grandchildren, Leah Edwards, Lauren and Michael Demers; four great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Eleanor Mancini and Gilda Tomashunas both of Worcester; and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick the son of Thomas and Doris (Cormier) Allen. George was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a medic in Italy. Mr. Allen attended St. Anselm’s College. He then worked as a laboratory technician for the Veteran’s Administration, in Rutland, and then spent the next 20 years in medical equipment sales throughout New England, and retired in 1976 from Elkay Products. He will be remembered for his love of family and passion for providing music at countless events for charitable organizations and weddings within the central Massachusetts area. In 1977 he was presented with the Mayor’s Key to the City of Worcester in appreciation for the music he shared.
George’s family wishes to thank the staff and drivers for the outstanding care provided to him for the past 30 years while attending St. Francis Adult Day Health Center.
The funeral is Friday, September 7th at O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the start of the service. The family requests donations in memory of George P.
