Maureen H. (Duffy) Nickerson, age 75, Of Wilmington, formerly of Melrose and Wakefield, died unexpectedly, Saturday September 1, 2012, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, surrounded by her family whom she loved more than anything. Born in Boston, MA, Maureen was the devoted daughter of the late Louise (Landry) Duffy & Vincent Duffy.
Maureen was raised in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield Schools. She was married in 1958 to her beloved husband, David L. Nickerson. They then soon moved to Melrose, in 1960, where they raised their family. After 23 years in Melrose, they then moved to Wilmington.
Maureen was a Field Worker for the U.S. Census Bureau. She worked for 28 years before eventually retiring in 1997. Maureen enjoyed bowling and playing cribbage. She often traveled, with her husband David, visiting Mexico, the Caribbean and most recently, this summer, a trip to Niagara Falls. In past summers, the family often rented a cabin on the Pine River Pond in Wakefield, NH. But mostly, Maureen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her loving grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband David, Maureen was the devoted mother of David L. Nickerson Jr and his wife Robin of Carver, Susan E. Hodgson and her husband Joseph of Merrimack, NH. Loving grandmother of Joseph P. Hodgson Jr., Julie A. Hodgson, Jacob D. Nickerson, Kereith Pinnock, and Karly B. Nickerson. Sister of Barbara J. Roberts of California and the late William Duffy, Dorothy Krause and Mary Murphy. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St. WILMINGTON, Wednesday September 5th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8pm. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Maureen's name to a charity of your choice.
