HAVERHILL: Anna C. (Lancaster) O’Neil, 86, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the Merrimack Valley Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William L. O’Neil with whom she shared thirty-three years of marriage.
Born in Ipswich on June 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Crozman) Lancaster. Anna was a resident of Haverhill for many years and previously resided in Georgetown during her younger years. She was a graduate of Georgetown High School.
Anna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and kept very busy taking care of her family. Her favorite times were spent vacationing together as a family at several different beaches in the area. Anna’s family will always remember her great sense of humor and her unpredictable “one liners” that she would come out with. In her spare time, Anna was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bingo and taking shopping trips to Wal-Mart, her favorite store.
She is survived by her three sons, Daniel O’Neil and his wife, Sandi of Haverhill, William O’Neil and his wife, Elsa of Dunnellon, FL and John O’Neil and his wife, Nancy of Wellington, FL; her four daughters, Elaine Cortese and her husband, Bob and Peggy Smart all of Haverhill, Sheila Culver and her husband, Roy of Palm Coast, FL and Christine Tracy and her husband, Jeff of Danville, NH; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a brother, John Lancaster of Merced, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Dennis P. O’Neil and her grandson, Dennis P. O’Neil, Jr. and her two sisters, Ellen Hazel Lancaster and Marion Rogers.
A funeral service for Anna will be held on Tuesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts Street, #450, Newton, MA 02458-1287. Interment will be held in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
