Lawrence O. Thomas
October 31, 1921 - January 19, 2012

Lawrence O. Thomas, age 90 of Anderson died at St. John's Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born October 31, 1921 in Terre Haute, IN to John Carl and Lillie (Hackler) Thomas.

He served 23 years retiring as a Lt. Colonel Senior Command Pilot in the U.S. Air Force. After retirement, he was an entrepreneur and business developer.

He attended Park Place Church of God and was a member of the Church of Christ in Cookeville, TN. He brought fun, laughter, wisdom and great joy to his family and friends. A benefactor to his treasures Anderson University, Anderson Symphony and Madison County Historical Society. He received many military awards including the 2010 Anderson City School's Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Morrison) Blevins Thomas of Anderson; children Lawrence (Margie) Thomas of TN; Marsha Thomas Harrell of MN; Beth (Scott) Brown of TN; stepchildren: John (Tami) Blevins of Anderson and Joy (Randy) Loyd of Anderson; grandchildren Julie Thomas; Scott L. Brown; Jacqueline Brown; John Chapman; DeAnna Bullard all of TN; Kathy Harrell-Latham of MN; Tom Harrell of Neb. step grandchildren Amanda (Dave) Tansel; Lacy (Brody) Stock; Angie (Kyle) Garner; Troy (Jessica) Loyd; Kassidy Hiatt; Kyler Hiatt and 18 great grandchildren; stepsister Donna Ruth Thomas; sisters-in-law Mona Hoffman and Vivian Caudill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth (Mundy) Thomas, sister Ethel Thomas and step granddaughter Alison Blevins Rogers and great granddaughter Savannah Stock.

Dorothy and the Anderson family will receive friends at Park Place Church of God on Saturday, from 10 AM until 12 Noon.

Services will be Sunday, January 23 at 2:00 P.M. at Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville, TN with visitation Saturday, January 21 from 5-7 P.M.
Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery in Cookeville, TN.


Memorial contributions may be given to Anderson University to the Lawrence and Dorothy Blevins Thomas Scholarship Fund.
