MARLBOROUGH: Li Chen Kramer, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, age 45, of Marlborough, an Associate Director at Millennium Pharmaceuticals of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday evening, August 26, 2012, at Massachusetts General Hospital with her husband by her side. She had been the loving wife of Keith A. Kramer for 16 years.
Born, raised and educated in Beijing, China, she was the daughter of Jiahe and Ruqian Chen of Beijing. Li was awarded her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Peking prior to coming to the United States where she earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Miami School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology and then completed a Master of Science degree in Information Technology at the University of Maryland University College. Additionally, Li earned a MBA at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
While Li and Keith lived in Beltsville, MD, Li was a Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, and then worked for two years as Principal Consultant with the Oracle Corporation. They then lived in Ellicott City, MD while Li was employed as a software engineer at Celera Genomics and Applied Biosystems. After two years of management and strategy consulting for Booz Allen Hamilton, she accepted the position of Associate Director of Medical Informatics, Strategy, and Operations at Millennium. Planning to stay with Millennium indefinitely, she and Keith searched for and found their dream home in Marlborough.
Li enjoyed light comedy, cooking, her stuffed animal collection and gardening when she found the time. Though happiest at home, she and her husband would also look forward to the occasional night out.
In addition to Keith and her parents, Li is survived by her brother Lin Chen and his wife Pingfei Shi of Beijing.
Her Memorial Service will be held at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street on Natick Common, Natick, on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 at 3 p.m. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service at 1 p.m. Burial will be private.
