Donald Leroy "Sonny" Haines, 83, of Anderson died at Community Hospital in Anderson after a 3 month illness.
He was born March 25, 1929 in Anderson to Theodore and Clara (Flora) Haines.
He worked Production at Delco Remy before retiring in 1993.
He was a member of UAW Local 662 and was a committeeman. He was an avid sports fan and he loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Betty (Kates) Haines of Anderson whom he married May 23, 1981 in Anderson; his 4 children: Kevin Haines; Mary Sue Scovel; Dencil (Sara) Ward and Bill (Sheron) Haines all of Anderson; 4 step-children: Tina (Charles) Wagner of PA; Tony Neff of NC; Mark Neff of NC and Victor Neff of PA; Charles (Darlene) Haines of FL; Jack (Barbara) Haines of Anderson and a sister Sara Nieman of FL; 21 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Donald Haines, Jr.; his daughter, Tamara Santiago; son-in-law David Scovel; his brothers Bill Haines, Theodore "Bus" Haines and his sister Ethel Sparks.
Services will be Thursday, May 3, at 12:00 Noon at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Bishop Carl Black and Don Cruikshank of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.
The visitation will be from 10 AM until the service at the funeral home.
