Mike Neal
November 14, 1952 to June 10, 2012
Michael F. Neal died unexpectedly on June 10, 2012. He was the devoted, loving husband of Melan (Waugh) Neal and the son of Floyd and Phyllis Neal of New Castle.
He was born November 14, 1952 in New Castle, IN.
Mike was a 1981 graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and he worked in various police, detective and security positions for many years. After taking a leave to care for his mother-in-law, he discovered a new passion for helping seniors to remain in their homes and he worked as a caregiver over the past several years.
Childhood summers in the Kentucky mountains instilled a deep love of nature and animals. He found great peace and pleasure in such simple things as a walk in search of turtles around Shadyside Lake. In recent years, he became an avid cyclist and could often be seen riding around town any time of day or night, no matter the weather conditions.
Mike was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as both a Trustee and a Deacon. He was always willing to help wherever needed with many church events.
After overcoming some major struggles in his life, Mike developed a passion for sharing his experience, strength and hope in helping others. He was a great source of encouragement to so many people and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, his parents, brothers Alan (Patty) & Mark, sister Marla (Terry) Laurie, daughter Andrea Perry; three grandchildren and his beloved kitties.
A memorial service is planned on Friday, June 15 at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday June 15 at 3:30 P.M. officiated by Rev. Ryan Rasmussen. The service will be followed by a reception in the parlor. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Animal Protection League.
Arrangements were provided by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
