Jose A. Fontes, 87, of Hudson, died Wednesday, Aug. 29th at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Emilia (Moreira) Fontes who died in 2008.
Jose was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, son of the late Jose and Emilia (Andrade) Fontes. He has resided in Hudson since 1968 and was employed by the Data General Co. in Southboro for over 10 years until his retirement. Jose enjoyed gardening in his spare time. He took great pride in cultivating a variety of grapes in his garden which he used to make his homemade wines. He was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
He is survived by his four children, Theresa Beaudoin, Antonio Fontes and his wife Dina, Inez Fontes and Lucy Medeiros and her husband Joao, all of Hudson. He is also survived by his brother, Manuel Fontes of Rhode Island; his two sisters, Angelina Braga of Hudson, Anna Sousa of Portugal; his 6 grandchildren, Jeff, Patrick and Joshua Beaudoin, Christopher and Derek Medeiros, Nicole Fontes; 2 great granddaughters, Becky and Amanda Beaudoin and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 1st at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 31st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
