Natalie (Izyk) Cory Ochs, 89, formerly of Sol-E-Mar Apartments in South Dartmouth, died Friday, May 21st, at New Bedford Health Care Center surrounded by her children after a brief illness.She was the wife of the late George W. Ochs.
Born in New Bedford, October 23, 1914, the daughter of the late Sebastian and Antonia (Wnek) Izyk, she lived in this area for most of her life. She was a member of Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church.
Mrs. Ochs was formerly employed as a double-needle stitcher at the New Bedford Manufacturing Company until her retirement in October 1979.
Mrs. Ochs raised two children by herself and worked hard all of her life. She would like to be remembered for her faith in God and for loving her family very much. She will be especially remembered for her loving and generous ways, and her gentle demeanor. She was always very proud that she was self-sufficient and drove a car up until the age of 85 1/2 years.
Mrs. Ochs was a former member of the South End Golden Agers and spent many a night down at the Sol-E-Mar Community Room playing cards and bingo. She enjoyed listening to country music and especially looked forward to visiting Indian Ranch in Webster every summer. Her favorite country singers were Waylon Jennings and Faron Young.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Anne Medeiros, and her husband Norman, of New Bedford and June DeBarros, of Fall River; a sister, Adele Belanger of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Darci-Lynn Davis and her husband Josh, of Florida and Dawn Marie DeBarros, of Fall River; and two great-grandchildren, Crystal Beth DeBarros and Justin Michael Sounik; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
She was the grandmother of the late Manuel M. Adriano, Jr. and John Michael DeBarros and sister of the late Frederick A. Izyk and Theodore Izyk.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday May 26, 2004 at 10 AM in Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Polish National Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Tuesday May 25, 2004 from 4-8 PM.
