Londonderry – Michael R. (Mike) Urban, 96, died Aug. 27, at home with family. He was born and grew up in Yonkers, NY, the son of Harry and Tessie Urban. During WWII he was employed by the Navy Dept. as a civilian Ordnance Engineer, and later graduated from New York University, College of Engineering with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
He was employed by Barnes Engineering Co. as Regional Manager with offices in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked before retiring to Ocala, FL. During retirement he was an active golfer until age 85, volunteered in the Lion’s Club, traveled the country, took many cruises and visited Holland and South Africa.
Mike was predeceased by his wife Anne(Bodnar) of 67 years in 2007, and a sister, Mary Sabol. He is survived by sons Richard and his wife Marlene of Londonderry, and Kenneth and his wife Hilary of Rochester Hills, MI., sisters Anne Halbert of Ocala, FL and Dorothy Zelinger of Concord, NC., granddaughters Nikki Friedman and Paula Urban, and two great-grandchildren.
After moving from Ocala, FL to Londonderry in 2010, he enjoyed family outings in warm weather, visiting the NH mountains, and card games any time. Mike was the perfect gentleman, kind to all he met, made friends easily, and consistently thought of other people’s needs. He will be greatly missed by family and all his many friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sep. 8, 2012 at 10:00am at Rockingham Christian Church, 5 Industrial Way, Unit #2, Salem, NH, where he attended with his son Richard and daughter-in-law Marlene. His ashes will be sent to Ocala, FL to be buried alongside his wife's. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
