Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Helen E. Wagstaff, age 91 years, formerly of Pine Hill Acres in New Bedford, died Friday August 24, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Samuel S. Wagstaff.

A graduate of New Bedford High School, she was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Ralph G. and Laurena (Darling) Spooner and lived in this area all of her life.

Helen was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Lunds Corner having been baptized and married there. A member of the Mayflower Society, she was a descendant of John White. At one time, Helen and her late husband were members of Grace Episcopal Church and the 20/20 Club. She loved gardening and was very interested in genealogy studies.

She is survived by her son Dr. Samuel S. Wagstaff Jr. of Indiana, her daughter Millicent Meckowski of Dighton, her sister Gertrude Neary of Westport, and several grandchildren and step grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 29th from 5-7 p.m. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford. Her funeral will be at the First Congregational Church of Lund's Corner, 2195 Acushnet Ave., NB on Thursday at 10 A.M. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.

It is suggested remembrances be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
