Obituary

Guveyan, Jack of Waltham, former longtime resident of Arlington, died peacefully on August 26, 2012 after a brief illness at age 91. Jack was the former director of the state Medicaid program, and spent his entire career at the MA Department of Public Welfare. He played viola for over 40 years with the Arlington Philharmonica Society and sang bass in the Trinity Church choir (Boston). Veteran U.S. Navy WW II, Brown University and Simmons College Alum and Meals-on-Wheels volunteer. He was a founding member of the National Association of Armenian Studies and Research organization that helped establish the nation’s first chair in Armenian Studies at Harvard University in 1959. He was a life-long learner . His outgoing personality, good heart and booming voice will be greatly missed.

Survived by his son Steven of West Hartford, CT, and daughter Susan and son-in-law Wayne Parseghian, and his two beloved granddaughters , Ani and Arpi Parseghian, of Arlington. Predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Arpine, and daughter Jean. Dear brother of the late Elizabeth Margosian (Watertown), Gussene Hatzik (CA) and Virginia Guveyan (Watertown/Cambridge). Also survived by one niece and many nephews, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Funeral service at the Armenian Memorial Church, 32 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown on Thursday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours at the Aram Bedrosian Funeral Home, 558 Mount Auburn Street, Watertown on Wednesday from 6 – 9 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Armenian Memorial Church or Philharmonic Society of Arlington, 50 Paul Revere Road, Arlington,MA. Interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
