Obituary

Vandal A. Johnson, 64, of New Bedford died August 24, 2012 at Tufts Medical Center after a long illness.
He was the husband of Cheryl J. (Pollard) Johnson.
Born in New Bedford, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Johnson was formerly employed as police dispatch at University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth for 14 years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and later served 22 years with the Army National Guard until his retirement. Van enjoyed the company of his dog Snookie and playing X Box where he was known as "JunkVan." He was a former ham radio operator.
Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Kirsten Johnson and Erin Arroja and her husband Marc, all of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Kaidyn Johnson, Kenna Johnson, Kiara Johnson and Marc Arroja, II; a great-granddaughter, Lylah Jane Lima Johnson; 4 brothers, Marvin Johnson of Florida, Rodney Johnson of Taunton, Mitchell Johnson of New Bedford and Robert Johnson of Newport, RI; 4 sisters, Lynda Monte, Sharon Cote and Lisa Johnson, all of Maryland and Heidi Johnson of Newport, RI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Marvin E. Johnson and Barbara A. (O'Connell) Jones and the brother of the late Jeffrey Johnson and Mark Johnson.
His visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 29th from 10 AM to 12 Noon followed by his Funeral Service at 12 Noon in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
