Westborough
Dr. Stewart A. MacKenzie, Jr., 84, of Westborough, formerly of E. Walpole, died Wednesday night, May 19th after a period of failing health.
His wife, Elizabeth F. (Bender) MacKenzie died in April 2002. He leaves his children, Gail A. Condon of Shrewsbury and Stewart A. MacKenzie III, of E. Weymouth; his step-children, Katherine T. Coolidge of Denver, Colorado, Edmund D. Coolidge of Boston and Marta A. Coolidge of Keller, Virginia; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; He was born in Boston, son of the late Dr. Stewart A. and Abbie J. (Nielson) MacKenzie, Sr., and lived many years in East Walpole before moving to Westborough two years ago. He graduated from New England School of Optometry.
Dr. MacKenzie was a longtime optometrist with his father, originating on Washington Street in Boston and later moving the practice to West Roxbury.
He and his wife loved to travel. They enjoyed spending their summers at their home in Damariscotta, Maine. They also maintained a home in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club and a volunteer and benefactor of The Friends of Bird Park.
Funeral services and interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. Memorials in his memory may be made to The Lions Club for Eye Research, Massachusetts Lions Eye Research, Inc., P.O.
