Obituary

WEBSTER – Eudore J. “Ted” Morse, age 93, a longtime restaurant owner, died Tuesday, May 18, in Oakwood Rehab & Nursing Center. His wife of 64 years, Philomena A. “Phil” (Hoenig) Morse, died in 2002.

He leaves a son, Richard E. Morse of Thompson, CT; 2 daughters, Norma P Wadewitz of Holliston and Sandra E. Carmell of Palm City, Florida; 2 sisters, Jeannette Millette of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Florence Shaw of Webster; 5 grandsons, Drew B. Carmell of Coral Springs, Florida, Robert C. Morse of Sutton, Richard E. Morse and Ryan A. Morse, both of Stoughton, and Randall J. Morse of Thompson, CT; 2 granddaughters, Dr. Jennifer M. Stepanek of Vero Beach, Florida, and Dr. Kirstin P. Wadewitz of Cambridge; 4 great grandchildren, Cassidy and Corey Stepanek and Alexander and Ella Carmell; and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Doris Larocque and Marion Belisle, both of Webster, and 2 brothers, Henry Morse of Dudley and Eugene Morse of Florida.

He was born in Webster, a son of Edward and Delia (Belisle) Morse, and was a lifelong resident. He attended Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester.

Mr. Morse and his wife founded, owned and operated the Colonial Club Restaurant. They opened the Thompson Road location in 1945. After retiring, they continued to be active collaborators in the daily functioning of the restaurant, now operated by their son Richard and grandson Robert Morse.

He was a member of the Webster-Dudley-Oxford Chamber of Commerce, and he and his wife were awarded its “Citizen of the Year” award in 1978. He was a member of Saint Louis Parish, a life member of the Webster Lodge of Elks #1466, and a past member and president of the Webster Lions Club.

He enjoyed all sports, and owned and operated the Colonial Athletic Club semi-pro football team in the 30’s and 40’s. He was devoted to golf, and founded the Colonial Invitational Golf Tournament 41 years ago. Today, it is one of the highlights of the local golf season in Webster and Thompson. He was a devoted baseball fan as well.

The funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 24, at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. After cremation, burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley, at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, May 23, in the Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street.
