Obituary

Today, we lost a truly great man, and a real gentleman. Jack Williams, formerly of Hingham has succumbed to his long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Jack, aka John, a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada married his wife of 50 years, Thelma Anne (Marshall) Williams in 1949 who predeceased him in March 2000. They had 3 children; Heather, John and Robert (Bob). Jack moved his family to the U.S., Chicago, IL in 1960 after accepting a sales position with Union Twist Drill Company. He quickly was promoted to National Sales Manager. Jack had a very successful, colorful and rewarding career. He was promoted to president of Merriman, Inc of Hingham, another division of UTD and relocated to Hingham in 1965. After Litton Industries purchased UTD, Jack held a number of positions with that corporation including president, group executive, board member and others. Jack and later Thelma were fortunate to be able to travel the world on business. Jack was able to enjoy and play a lot of golf, which her truly loved. After retirement, Jack and Thelma really enjoyed their winter home in Boynton Beach, FL. Jack and Thelma were loved there and Jack was very active in the management of Quail Ridge, including becoming president of the association.

He is survived by his children, all who became U.S. citizens, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Heather and Steve Coan of Stow, MA., and their 2 daughters, Jamie and Allison; John Williams of Plymouth, MA and Bob and Sue Williams. Their children all of Charlotte, NC; Tommy Williams with his two children, Mercadies and Tommy, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, David Williams, John and Jennifer Williams and their two children, Hannah and Haidyn; and Tyler Williams. We are all going to miss Dad as he was such a great part of our lives.

Visiting hours at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Saturday from 4-7 PM. The funeral services and interment are to be private. Rather than flowers, donations in Jack's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or Cranberry Hospice, 326 Cordage Park, Plymouth, MA 02360.
