Obituary

Harlem, GA - Elaine Milton Swann O’Connor finished the race set before her on August 21, 2012. She was born in Jefferson County, Georgia on December 29, 1933, daughter of the late Clifford Milton and Mae Minus Milton Dye. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Milton Swann, her daughter, Karen Swann Raskin, her sister Janice Milton Weeks, her sister Elmore Milton Fannin and her brother, James Milton.
She is survived by two sons, Vic Swann of Vero Beach, FL and daughter-in-law, Kathy Swann of Valrico, FL and their children Brent Swann (fiancé Dyan) and Marlee Swann Griggs(Ben) of Tampa, FL; and Wayne Swann (Pam)of Harlem, and their children Landon, Lindsey, Lauren and Logan Swann of Harlem.
Elaine graduated in 1950 from Wrens High School. She was a full time homemaker until her children were in school. In 1963 she was named Sixth District Homemaker of the Year. She started working as a bookkeeper and went to Phillips Jr. College at night, graduating Magna Cum laude with degrees in Business Management and Accounting. She retired from Busby’s Heating and Air Conditioning in 2000.
She was an active member of Abilene Baptist Church and the Ladies 5 Sunday School Class. Her most cherished moments were spent with her Grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Harlem Senior Center.
Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, at Abilene Baptist Church, 3917 Washington Road, Martinez, GA with the Rev. William F. Harrell and Dr. Brad Whitt officiating. Burial will follow at Ways Baptist Church, Stellaville (Wrens) GA.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Noegel, Dick Noegel, Rusty Noegel, Lee Swann, Jim Milton, and Robert Chalker. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Busby, Rick Pinnell, Steve Beckett, Lafayette Richardson and Harlan Burdeshaw.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Abilene Baptist Church, 3917 Washington Road, Martinez, GA 30907.
