Dr. John Paul Jones
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, August 21, 2012, Dr. John Paul Jones, 85, husband of Mrs. Donna H. Jones
Dr. Jones was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and Augusta Junior College. He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and served on the USS Chemung in the North Atlantic. After the war he graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. His career as an optometrist lasted 45 years, with offices in Augusta and Louisville, GA. He was a member of the American Legion Post 63. Dr. Jones enjoyed fishing, travel, woodworking, bird watching, Scrabble, and the mountains. He loved kids and especially his granddaughters.
Family members in addition to his wife include daughter: Joanne O. Cheng and her husband Larry; step daughters: Sharon Holland, Kris Holland; mother in law: Olive Reville; grandchildren: Alison Cheng, Renee Cheng; various nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Charlie DeLoach officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
