NATICK AND WALLINGFORD, CT: Stuart C. Peterson, 92, died peacefully in the care and comfort of his family on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Ashlar Village Hospice in Wallingford, CT following a period of declining health.
He was born in Somerville, MA on February 12, 1920 the son of the late Arthur Peterson and Mabel (Campbell) Peterson.
He is survived by his devoted daughters, Jean P, Balsley of Wallingford, CT and Leslie H. Peterson of Brooklyn. NY. Loving grandfather of Elaine and David Balsley and great-grandfather of Ethan Brown, Kayla Balsley and Seth Brown. He was the husband of the late Ellen (Fitch) Peterson who died on December 24, 2001.
Mr. Peterson had been a resident of Natick for over 58 years before moving to Wallingford, CT in 2008 to be closer to his family. He was a graduate of Tufts University with the Class of 1941 and a graduate of Harvard University. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Corporal with the United States 7th Army Air Force in the Pacific. Mr. Peterson had a long and distinguished career as a Civil Engineer and was associated from 1962 until his retirement in 1980 with the United States Government with the Environmental Protection Agency in Boston. He also served in the field of public health services for many years and with several private engineering firms before his association with the United States Government. He also worked for several years on the Panama Canal project, prior to WWII.
Private family services will be held at a later date at the Peterson family lot in Newton Cemetery.
