Obituary

BOURNE: L. Jean (Butler) Rooney, 84, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston after being stricken at her residence in Bourne earlier in the day.

She was born in East Boston, on August 29, 1927 the daughter of the late John P. Butler and Bridget (Doherty) Butler.

She was the beloved wife for 60 years of the late John H. Rooney who died in July of 2008. Devoted and loving mother of Maureen B. Bradley and her husband Peter of Sagamore Beach and their children Bridget Bradley of Needham and Meghan Savage of Bellingham; Michael P. Rooney and his companion Robin of Bellingham and his children, Michael P. Rooney, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Shannon Rooney of Burlington, VT and Heather Shepard of Hooksett, NH; Kathleen “Pat” Croft and her husband Robert of Largo, FL and their children Rob Croft of Marshfield, Rusty Croft of Shrewsbury and Nikki Croft of Millis; John H. Rooney, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Merion Station, PA and their children John H. Rooney III of Ardmore, PA, Caitlin Merto of Drexel Hill, PA, Holly Rooney of Philadelphia, PA and Ed Rooney of Newark, DE and Ari Kafetzopoulos and his son Georgio Kafetzopoulos both of Bellaire Beach, FL. She was the sister of George Butler of Cochituate, Phyllis Butler of Falmouth, Lorraine Grealey of West Harwich and the late John Butler and Richard Butler. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jean had resided in Cochituate for over 40 years before she and her husband retired to Largo, Florida where they lived for 28 years. In 2008 she returned to reside in Bourne to be closer to her family. Jean was a graduate of Natick High School where she had taken college preparatory courses. She had a long and distinguished career as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of the Wayland Public Schools and retired in the early 1970’s. While residing in Cochituate she was a longtime communicant of St. Zepherin’s Church. Jean was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main St (Route 27), Cochituate.
Interment will follow in the Rooney family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
