Obituary

Peggy Gibbs Griffin, 77, of Ben Hill County, died Friday, August 17, 2012, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Sunday, August 19, at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. and the Rev. Brent Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Griffin was born March 3, 1935 in Ben Hill County, Georgia to the late Wesley & Bertha Palmer Gibbs. She attended Emory School, graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1953 and graduated with a CNA Degree from Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College. She lived in Ben Hill County all of her life and worked at Fitzgerald Underwear, B.C. Moore’s Department Store, Hill’s Pharmacy, the Fashion Stop and JACO Pants factory in Ashburn, Georgia. Mrs. Griffin was an avid fisherman, a fan of the Atlanta Braves, and she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She also enjoyed flying and traveling. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she was a choir member and served as a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed playing in the church softball league.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years: Willis E. Griffin of Ben Hill County; one daughter & son-in-law: Beth & Gary Fowler; and one son: John Ed Griffin all of Ben Hill County; grandchildren: John Wesley Griffin and Kaylyn Fowler; and two sisters: Minnie Gibbs and Evelyn Mays, both of Ben Hill County. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Johnnie Blue Gibbs and two sisters: Betty Gibbs and Lurene Livingston.
