METHUEN – Sr. Elaine Fournier, 77, died Monday August 13, 2012 at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary in Methuen.
Sr. Elaine Fournier was the daughter of the late Theodore and Emma (Laroche) Fournier. Born in Holyoke, MA in 1935 she was educated at Immaculate Conception School and Precious Blood High School and graduated from Marie Joseph Academy in Biddeford, Maine. She pursued higher studies at Rivier College in Nashua, NH where she obtained her degree in education and music.
She entered the Congregation of the Presentation of Mary Sisters on July 30, 1953 pronouncing her religious vows in Hudson, NH in 1956. During 56 years of religious life, Sr. Elaine served her congregation in various parish schools in Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont as an elementary teacher, choir director for adults and children and taught piano. In 1974 she was appointed as church organist in Gardner, MA for 8 years. She held the position of local superior in various convents. In the early 70’s she was Chair Person of 4 C Steering Committee of Day Care Centers in Lawrence and Methuen. In 2001 she became Liturgist at Residence Saint Claire. Due to failing health Sr. Elaine was transferred to the Sisters’ Infirmary in early 2012.
In addition to Sisters in religious life, she leaves nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her brothers Roger, Normand, Richard and Gerard Fournier.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Sunday August 19, 2012 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm. at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary, 209 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday August 20, 2012 at 2:00pm in the Presentation of Mary Chapel with burial to follow in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery also in Methuen.
