Obituary

Alexander Kalley, 87, of W. Mystic Ave, died peacefully at home Saturday with family by his side.

He was born in Maine in 1916 the son of Oscar and Wilma Kalley. He was a 1937 graduate of Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a 1942 graduate of the University of Michigan. he later accepted a position at Electric Boat in Groton where he served as Planning Supervisor, retiring in 1987 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers.

Known for his varied interests and hobbies, Mr. Kalley enjoyed ships, trains, sailing, ice skating, and hiking. He skiied until the age of 71 and learned to ride horses at the age of 81 at Laurel Ledge Farm. He also was known as an avid photographer, creating many photo journals of family travels, particularly discovering his roots in Russia.

He was amrried to Dorothy Kalley in San Francisco in June 1945. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage until her death in Semptember, 1991. Mr. Kalley is survived by his daughter Carol Silva and her husband Richard of Mystic; a daughter-in-law, Wendi Kalley of Bridgewater, NJ; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera brown of Warrensburg, NY and Evelyn Whitehouse of Lynnwood, WA.

He was predeceased by his son, Gordon Kalley who died in 1992.

His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 4-4:45pm immediately followed by a service at 5pm. The Rev. Doretta M. Colburn, Senior Pastor of the Mystic Congregational Church, will officiate.
