Paul J. Howell, age 83, of Wilmington passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on August 12th in his home with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (McSheffrey) and together they shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Revere on November 24, 1929 he was the son of the late William D. and Margaret (McVane) Howell.
Paul was a Wilmington resident for most of his life. He worked for over forty years as a superintendent in the construction industry prior to his retirement in 1989. Thirty-five of those years he worked with the Richard White Sons Construction Company of Auburndale, MA and was a member of the New England Carpenters Union. When Paul was not working he enjoyed collecting and refurbishing antique cars. He also enjoyed being outdoors camping and boating with his family and spending the summer months at his home in Maine on Thompson Lake. During his retirement years together with is wife they would look forward to spending the winter months in Spring Hill, FL.
In addition to his late parents, Paul is predeceased by his daughter, the late Bettyann Howell Carroll, grandson, the late Francis X Carroll III, and two brothers and two sisters. Along with his wife, Paul is survived by his children, Diane Merrill of Pepperell, Paul J. Howell Jr. and his wife Louise, Gregory J. Howell and his wife Gerry, all of Ashby. He is also survived by twelve loving grandchildren and seven loving great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 374 Main St. Wilmington, Friday, August 17th, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Main St., Wilmington, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral home will be held on Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Interment services will be private. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
