Obituary

Cecile G. (Viel) Nicastro, age 91, formerly of Peabody, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Devereux House in Marblehead. She was the wife of the late Andrew Nicastro.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Laura (Ouellette) Viel. A clever dressmaker, Cecile always worked as a seamstress, first at home and then for over twenty years for Filenes in Peabody. Following her retirement from Filenes in 1985, she continued working in her home.

A born ‘shopper’ from an early age, Cecile was an avid Bingo and Foxwoods fan who took delight in conning one of her daughters in taking her on one of her forays. She was also a former member of St. James Parish in Salem.

Cecile is survived by two daughters, Celia M. Erwin of Salem, Andrea Di Stefano of Peabody, a son James Nicastro of Hampton, NH, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Richard Nicastro, her brothers, Raymond, George & Joseph Viel, and sisters, Marie Potorski & Rita Viel.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 9:00 A.M, to be followed by her funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd, Salem at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
